Gomez named South Sioux City assistant city administrator

City officials in South Sioux City, Nebraska, have named a current city council member to serve as assistant city administrator.

Oscar Gomez was selected from a pool of 25 candidates for the position.

He will work alongside current city administrator Lance Hedquist.

The 1993 graduate of South Sioux City High School, Gomez currently works at Security National Bank in Sioux City as Hispanic Banking Services Manager.

Gomez has served on the city council since January of 2007, taking over for Bob Giese who resigned to take over as the city’s mayor.

With the new position, Gomez will have to resign from the city council.

Gomez’s current term runs through 2020.

That open seats means either Mayor Rod Koch would name someone to fill the remaining time, or allow for applications to the position.
