Tony Thomas was 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBI and three runs, Wichita pounded out 19 hits and the Wingnuts beat the Explorers on Saturday, 11-8.
One day after ending the Explorers’ 10-game win streak, Wichita jumped all over Sioux City starter Keith Picht. Picht gave up 11 hits and six runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Logan Watkins was 4-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored. John Nester added three hits. Every player in the Wingnuts lineup had at least one hit, and seven different players drove in runs.
Sioux City’s bats kept them in the game, most notably in the fifth inning, when they scored four runs to take an 8-6 lead. Jay Baum hit a two-run double in that inning, and finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Nate Samson added two hits and drove in two runs.
But Wichita closed with five unanswered runs to seal the victory. The Wingnuts scored in every inning, except the second and eighth.
The X’s had 12 hits. Jay Austin was 2-for-3 and walked twice.
