Internationally-ranked drum & bugle corps to perform at Morningside College

A California-based drum and bugle corps has logged a lot of miles to get to Siouxland for an international competition.

The Dakota Valley Schools are hosting the Sacramento Mandarins Drum & Bugle Corps as they prepare for the Morningside College’s Drum Corps International competition on Tuesday.

This group travels a lot, and brings everything they need with them. They have their own kitchen, buses, and semis to accommodate the 211 drum and bugle corps members. Most of the competitors have paid their own way to be a part of this internationally recognized group. But, membership isn’t automatic. Musicians have to try out. "The kids don’t necessarily come from necessarily California, they come from all over the world," said Ike Jackson, Sacramento Mandarins Program Dir. "And, they audition to be part of this organization. Then we compete against other drum and bugle corps."

Drum Corps International ranks the Mandarins as the 10th best drum and bugle corps in the world.

They will perform at Morningside College’s Olsen Stadium Tuesday night around 7:00pm.

The event is free to the public, but you must have a ticket for entry. Click here to get your tickets.
