Sgt. Bluff-Luton earned their second straight trip to the state softball tournament with a 4-3 win over Denison-Schleswig on Tuesday night.
The 8th-ranked Monarchs had a 2-0 in the fourth when SBL’s Kinzey Foley hit a solo home run to make it 2-1. In the fifth inning, Taylor Brown and Emma Christensen hit solo shots for a 3-2 Warrior lead.
After D-S tied the game on a bases loaded walk in the sixth, SBL’s Chloe Black hit an RBI single to drive in the game-winning run.
"I kind of just wanted to hit it opposite field, so the girl at second could score," said Black. "I was just trying to hit it hard, because my other at-bats, I didn’t. I was just really happy that we got a run in."
"That’s your goal every year, and to go there two years in a row, which we’ve never done at Sergeant Bluff, it’s great," said head coach Tom Prince. "It’s never bad going down there. I know that."
SBL, ranked 15th in the finals Class 4A rankings, is the sixth seed at state and will play third-seeded Independence on Tuesday July 17 at 3:30 in Fort Dodge.
