Sioux City Community Schools host “Welcome Back Celebration”

Thursday is the first day of school for students at Sioux City Community Schools, so today the teachers were celebrated with a Welcome Back Celebration.

Staff members piled into the Orpheum Theater this morning for the event which is hosted about once every three years.

The Welcome Back Celebration brings the entire staff from the school district together to hear from district leaders and an inspirational speaker.

The reoccurring theme of the celebration was "You Matter!" reminding the teachers the work they are doing is important.

"It’s time for us to get back together after that very short summer break, and celebrate that these students are coming but really work together to move student achievement forward," said Dr. Paul Gausman, Superintendent

The teachers also participated in a number of unique group activities including a flash mob, featuring Dr. Gausman on the drums.
