The last official summer holiday is here, and many Americans will be enjoying a 3-day weekend.
But before you head to your destination- it is important to know some important things while on the road.
The Iowa State Patrol says that the roads will be busy this weekend- so being aware is most important.
Wearing your seatbelt, and not texting, are crucial for your safety, and others on the road.
The Iowa State Patrol says the number of fatalities this summer, are sobering.
"We’ve lost 93 people just in June, July, and August," said Trooper John Farley, Iowa State Patrol. "We want to make sure that we realize that these aren’t numbers, and they aren’t just statistics. These are family members, they’re loved ones- husbands, wives, sons, daughters."
Trooper Farley says the fatality statistic is an improvement from last summer.
In 2017, there were 10 fatalities recorded over Labor Day Weekend.
He hopes that won’t be the trend throughout this holiday weekend.
