UPDATE: Trailer explosion sends one to hospital


SCHLESWIG, Iowa (KTIV)- The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office says a trailer explosion in Schleswig, Iowa sent one man to the hospital on Sunday.

Just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, officials received a call reporting a trailer explosion at 207 Cedar Street.

Officials say 28-year-old Brett Nuzum of Kiron, Iowa, had opened the door to his camper to go outside to light a cigarette when the camper exploded.

Officials say Nuzum was taken to Crawford County Memorial Hospital with burns to his hands and face.

He was then later life-flighted to another facility for further treatment.

The camper was parked behind three buildings, all of which had minor exterior damage.

Officials say the camper was completely destroyed by the explosion.

Officials say it happened at 207 Cedar Street.

Witnesses say they saw an ambulance leaving the scene.
