DAKOTA CITY, NE (KTIV)-This weekend services all across America were performed to honor fallen firefighters lost in the line of duty.

For the seventh year, the foundation known as Bells Across America rang from coast to coast to remember those who have passed in 2017, as well as previous years.

On Sunday afternoon, three local heroes from Dakota City, NE were honored at the Dakota City Fire Department.

Badges of Honor were laid out for the three lost members

Banners with their names on them were also displayed for all to see.

The emotional service was just one of 23 bell ringing ceremonies to take place across the U.S

For the Fire Department and for the small knit community of Dakota City, the service was a reminder of the selfless

service the three fallen firefighters had provided them.

“You know they did not come home to their families one day so we need to honor and cherish our memories of what they have done for us,” says Clint Rasmussen, Dakota City Fire Chief.

Loved ones of the fallen firefighters say that memories of them will always be kept alive.

“They were always there if you needed something no matter what it was they knew if something was wrong they were going to help no matter what,” Jacey Rasmussen, Family Friend of Fallen Members.

In 2016 and 2017, all three firefighters were remembered and recognized at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Maryland.
