(NBC News) Two people were killed as Tropical Storm Michael moved across Florida and Georgia early Thursday.

The storm weakened Thursday morning as it made its way across the Carolinas.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the core of Michael will move across eastern Georgia into Central South Carolina on Thursday morning.

Michael made landfall Wednesday near Mexico Beach, Florida as a Category 4 hurricane, becoming the strongest storm to hit the Florida Panhandle in recorded history.
