(AP) – The governors of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota have ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff at state buildings to honor the victims of the nightclub massacre in Thousand Oaks, California.
The order is in effect until sunset Saturday.
Twelve people were killed when a hooded Marine combat veteran opened fire during college night at a country music bar in Thousand Oaks, sending hundreds fleeing in panic before apparently taking his own life.
The motive for the attack is not yet known.
Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flags at half-staff for the same length of time.
