SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Fifty more people are now on their way to Annapolis, Maryland, for the commissioning of the USS Sioux City.

The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce had made arrangements for a bus to charter citizens to the commissioning.

The passengers loaded up their luggage to hop on board of the bus which will travel through the night to arrive tomorrow by 2 p.m. at the Academy.

Passengers say they are excited for the once in a lifetime opportunity.

“I honestly looked at this as a once in a lifetime, never before going to a commissioning of any ship let alone the US Sioux City, USS Sioux City,” said Doug Strohbeen, bus passenger.

When the bus arrives the crew will get a special tour of the USS Sioux City and later that day take part in the evenings “Taste of Annapolis” reception.

Saturday morning passengers will attend the commissioning, and then the “Taste of Sioux City” post-commissioning reception.
