AMES, IOWA (KTIV) — For the first time in 33 years, Iowa State and Drake will meet on the football field on Saturday. Drake takes the place of Incarnate Word, who was taking the place of South Dakota State from the game cancelled by weather in week one.

Iowa State is 7-4 and ranked 24th in the Associated Press poll. The Cyclones won six conference games for the first time in school history.

Drake is a non-scholarship FCS team that’s also 7-4. The Bulldogs know a lot of people aren’t taking this game seriously, but they’re not going to roll over.

“We know how good Iowa State is going to be but we’re division one football players too,” said Drake senior Nathan Clayberg. “It’s not like we’re just a bunch of nerds running out there to play football. It’s going to be a fun game.”

“The biggest thing for us is that we’re still a team that can continue to grow and get better,” said Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell. “We have to use every opportunity to continue to do that.”

The Bulldogs won that last meeting in 1985. Iowa State and Drake play at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in Ames.
