SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — Day two went better for Siouxland teams at the NAIA Volleyball Tournament at the Tyson Events Center.

Fifth-ranked Dordt won for the second straight day, 3-1, over Corban of Oregon. That puts the Defenders in the round of 16 on Friday. Dordt has been the national runner-up the last two seasons.

“It feels really good. We were a little nervous coming into today, as you could tell from the first game,” said Dordt senior Jamie De Jager. “But I thought we played really well today so that was good to see. We had to come out as a team and we had to start playing at our level and make it our game.”

Dordt gets #12, The Masters of California, in their final pool play game on Thursday at 8:00 pm.

Northwestern bounced back from a day one loss to sweep #23 McPherson of Kansas, 3-0. The 8th-ranked Red Raiders can now advance with one more win.

“We all kind of had a bad taste in our mouth after last night’s game,” said senior Lauryn Hilger. “It’s obviously not how we’ve been typically playing this season. We had fun. We did it as a team and played for each other tonight. Obviously that gave us a different outcome.”

Northwestern plays #9 Rocky Mountain of Montana Thursday at 8:00 pm.

Unranked Morningside lost to 15th-ranked Westmont of California in the late game in five sets. That drops the Mustangs to 0-2 in the tournament, and likely ends their chances of advancing.

Morningside will face #18 Embry-Riddle of Florida on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
