Sioux City’s 2019 New Year’s Day baby

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) –  Change is in the air and for one family, the new year has already brought a bundle of joy

Meet Astrid, the first baby born on New Year’s Day in Sioux City.

Little Astrid was born at 12:59 a.m. and weighed in at nearly seven pounds.

Mom and baby are happy and healthy following the delivery.

Each year about 1,900 babies are born at UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s, but only a few are born on January first.

“You know everybody roots you through your labor. They literally are there for you so when you’re here, it’s like family,” said Heather Kempers, mother of the New Year’s baby.

Mother and baby should be heading home sometime this week.
