SPENCER, Iowa (KUOO) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources will be releasing trout in Spencer later this month.
DNR officials the trout will be released at noon January19 at Scharnberg Pond in Spencer. Trout will also be released in six other locations across the state.
The agency says the trout stocking is held during the winter in areas that would not support them during the warmer months.
The program is supported through sales of the trout fee.
Anglers need a valid fishing license and pay a special fee to fish or possess trout.
The daily limit is five trout per licensed angler with a possession limit of 10.
Children age 15 or younger can fish for trout with a properly licensed adult, but must limit their catch to one daily limit.
The child can purchase a trout fee allowing them to catch their own limit.
DNR officials say the winter stocking events are dependent upon favorable weather and ice conditions.
