(KTIV) – Siouxlanders will be hitting the slopes for a little bit of cardboard sledding this February.
On February 10 at Cone Park in Sioux City, River-Cade will be holding their kickoff cardboard homemade sled races.
There is no pre-registration for the event. Sledders will register the day of the event. Check-in will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the races starting at 2 p.m.
For 17 years, River-Cade has held the event as their opener. The race will feature five divisions of sledding, four which will be age based. New this year will be a division for businesses and clubs.
The rules for the cardboard races are pretty simple: the sleds have to be homemade, and there can’t be any plastic or steel runners on the bottom, just plain cardboard to snow.
Awards and trophies will be given for first, second, and third place finishes in each of the division, as well as a prize for the most creative sled.
