DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) — Last month, the first state wrestling tournament for Iowa girls was held in Waverly. Now, the second women’s college program is about to start in Iowa.

Grand View in Des Moines is offering scholarships for women, starting this fall. The growth of the sport has been quick, and the Vikings wanted to be ahead of the curve.

“We take a picture of the landscape,” said Grand View Athletic Director Troy Plummer. “We want to know what’s going on, what’s not just popular, not just who you can get bodies in, but what is it that actually fits what we do and how we like to operate as an athletic department.”

Waldorf is the other Iowa college with women’s wrestling.
