DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) — Fifth-ranked Boyden-Hull advanced the Class 2A championship game with a 62-59 win over South Hamilton on Wednesday at the Iowa boys state basketball tournament. The Comets are 23-2 this season. Third-ranked South Hamilton falls to 21-2.
The two evenly matched teams were tied 28-28 at halftime. Boyden-Hull pulled ahead by two, 46-44 after three quarters. The game featured eight lead changes and ten ties.
Junior guard Keyton Moser made all seven of his shots from the field and had 19 points to lead the Comets, with 15 coming in the second half. Beau De Jongh scored 11 points to go with 12 rebounds. Spencer Te Slaa added 10 points.
“The kids are excited but there’s no sense of being done,” said Boyden-Hull Head Coach Bill Francis. “They worked hard and got this win and they celebrate and we’ll celebrate tonight and watch this game and see who we have to play.”
“It’s something that we might not see again,” said Te Slaa. “We’re so happy coming off a poor year last year. It’s just super exciting for us.”
Boyden-Hull, who played in seven state championship games in Class 1A, will play for the the 2A title on Friday at 4:10 p.m. against top-ranked North Linn (25-0). It’s the Comets first title game since 2013.
