Dordt’s rally falls short in NAIA tournament debut

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — Dordt lost to Indiana-Northwest, 86-72, in round one of the NAIA Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Tyson Events Center on Wednesday. It was Dordt’s first appearance in the tournament in school history.

The first half belonged to Indiana-Northwest, who built a 45-28 lead at halftime. The fourth-seeded Defenders outscored the Redhawks, 26-11, in the third quarter to pull within two points. Dordt took a brief, 60-59, lead the fourth quarter before Indiana-Northwest pulled away.

Dordt made just 5-of-28 three point tries, while Indiana-Northwest made 10 three’s on 16 tries. The Defenders had nine steals and committed just 12 turnovers, compared to 20 for the Redhawks.

Erika Feenstra led Dordt with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Jordyn VanMaanen added 15 and Annie Rhinesmith score 11. Grayce Roach led all scorers with 36 points. Indiana-Northwest will play top-seeded Southeastern (FL) in round two on Friday at 10:15 a.m. Dordt ends their season at 20-12.
