DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) — Boyden-Hull’s bid for their first Class 2A title came up short on Friday. The Comets fell to top-seeded and undefeated North Linn, 60-41.
North Linn led 13-8 after one quarter and built a nine point lead in the second quarter. But Boyden-Hull closed the first half with a strong run, cutting the lead to 21-20 at halftime.
North Linn outscored the Comets 18-4 in the third quarter to pull away and finish at 26-0. Boyden-Hull ends the season at 24-2. The Comets shot 35% from the field while North Linn connected on 46% of their shots.
“I couldn’t ask for being with a better group of people all week,” said Boyden-Hull junior Spencer Te Slaa. “That was our goal originally, we just wanted to stay up the whole week, make it past the first game and keep going and we made that happen.”
“We needed our coach, my dad, to loosed the reigns a little bit,” said Boyden-Hull senior Carter Francis. “He said we’re going to have a little bit more fun in practice and during games this year. We’re going to relax a little bit and we’re going to play better because of it and that’s basically what happened all year.”
Te Slaa led Boyden-Hull with 10 points, while Francis added nine. North Linn’s Jake Hilmer led all scorers with 20 points.
