SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — Northwestern’s season came to an end Monday night in the NAIA women’s semifinals. The Red Raiders dropped an 82-79 decision to Concordia, coming from 18 points back to take several leads in the fourth quarter.

It was also the final game for three Northwestern seniors. Kassidy De Jong, Darbi Gustafson and Haley Birks were Northwestern’s top three scorers this season. The trio reached the national tournament three years in a row, making the semifinals the past two seasons.

Their contributions to Northwestern will not soon be forgotten.

“They’re outstanding young people,” said Northwestern Head Coach Chris Yaw. “How they treat each other, how they respect each other, how they grow each other, challenge each other, that’s the stuff that’s really easy to be proud of. You guys get to see the heart and the fight and that’s certainly something to be proud of as well. But it goes beyond what they do on the court that makes them just oustanding young people.”

De Jong, Gustafson and Birks also were named to the NAIA All-Academic team.
