WEST POINT, Nebraska (KTIV) – The opening statements for the trial of Derek Olson were presented Wednesday in Cuming County District Court.
Olson is charged with 2nd-degree murder in the death of 64-year-old Ernest Warnock of Bancroft, Nebraska.
Derek’s Father, Jody Olson, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in December as part of a plea agreement.
On Wednesday, the State argued there is sufficient evidence that Derek killed Warnock and later set his home on fire.
Olson’s lawyers argued that investigators rushed to conclusions and that DNA evidence contradicts what the State has presented.
They argued based on Jody Olson’s deposition, video evidence, and physical evidence that Jody killed Warnock, and Jody’s wife Becky Weitzenkamp set the home on fire.
