KNOX COUNTY, NEBRASKA (KTIV) —  Knox County Emergency Manager Laura Hintz says a big surge of water and huge chunks of ice have caused major damage near the junction of Highways 12 and 14. A cafe, mechanic repair shop and grain bin were damaged and at least one metal building is completely gone.

Hintz says the Department of Natural Resources indicates there is a possibility another strong surge of water and ice could come through up until 3:00 a.m. Friday, March 15.

She says Niobrara and Vertigre currently have no consumable water because of a broken water well line and pipe. The water district is working to fix the problem.
