MOVILLE, Iowa (KTIV)- The mayor of Moville, Iowa has declared a state of emergency.
City leaders are asking residents to check for water in their basements.
The west fork of the Little Sioux River has left its banks, causing the westbound lanes of Highway 20 to close.
Traffic is now moving in both directions in the eastbound lanes.
Around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, officials closed the portion of the highway due to the excess water.
At least two families had to be evacuated from their homes.
“There have been two homes evacuated, which consisted of 4 people, several pets, and they were rescued by boat earlier this morning,” said Rebecca Socknat, Woodbury County Emergency Management Agency Coordinator.
Highway 140 is also flooded north of Moville.
