Residents left without a home after apartment fire

OKOBOJI, Iowa (KTIV)- The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue responded to an apartment building on fire at the 1300 block of Country Club Drive in Okoboji just after noon on Sunday.

Firefighters say they were met with heavy fire coming from the second and third-floor balconies, with the fire starting into an upstairs apartment.

Officials say several residents were inside the apartment building at the time of the fire and were able to escape the blaze.

The fire was under control within 30 minutes.

Officials say damage to the building is extensive and officials say will displace all residents living there.

After an investigation, fire officials say it was accidental, and caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.

The Red Cross and Good News Community Church have offered shelter and food for those displaced by the fire.
