UPDATE: I-29 closing Sioux Falls to Brookings, I-90 Rapid City to Mitchell

UPDATE:

PIERRE, South Dakota (KTIV) – Officials from the South Dakota Departments of Transportation and Public Safety have closed I-90 from Rapid City to Mitchell.

Meanwhile, I-90 from Mitchell to Sioux Falls and I-29 from Sioux Falls to Brookings will both close at 7 p.m.

Conditions on I-29 and I-90 from Rapid City to Mitchell have deteriorated where travel is no longer safe due to heavy drifting and low visibility.

PIERRE, South Dakota (KTIV) – Part of Interstate 29 in South Dakota has closed Wednesday ahead of winter weather coming into the area.

Officials with the South Dakota Departments of Transportation and Public Safety is closing Interstate 29 from Brookings to the North Dakota border.

I-29 from Sioux Falls to Brookings is expected to be closed this afternoon as well.

South Dakota DOT officials also warn travelers should be aware conditions on I-90 are also deteriorating.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a blizzard warning for a large portion of the state that includes heavy wet snow and winds in excess of 50 mph.
