SIOUX CITY (KTIV)- Teen vaping and underage drinking were the topics of discussion Monday night at a Town Hall meeting in Sioux City.
Many organizations, including Siouxland CARES, the Sioux City Mayor’s Youth Commission and the Siouxland District Health Department participated in the “Communities Talk: Town Hall Meeting on Underage Drinking & Vaping” tonight at Bishop Heelan Catholic High School.
School administrators have seen an uptick in vaping within the last couple of years.
“Right now, vaping has just really become an issue that we hear a lot about,” said Christian Bork, Bishop Heelan High School Principal. It has gone from relative obscurity two years ago, to something that we hear about every day.”
Adults and students were split up into break out groups, after the presentation.
Parents were provided with tools with which to speak to their children, about difficult topics such as drug use.
“Teens are involved in vaping,” said Louise Paskey, Mother of 16-year-old. “And I think it’s important that awareness is brought about and that parents understand what the issues are so that they can have those critical conversations with their student.”
