(KTIV) – A bill that would make changes to Iowa’s election laws has cleared the Senate and will move to the Iowa House.
Closing polls an hour earlier– at 8 p.m., rather than 9 p.m.– is just one proposed change.
Another change would use postal service barcode technology to know whether an absentee ballot was mailed before the deadline.
The bill passed the Iowa Senate 31-to-18 along party lines.
The bill moves to the Iowa House for debate.
The Iowa legislative session is scheduled to end May 3.
