SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — Ever since winning the NAIA national championship in December, the Morningside football team has been celebrating. There have been banquets, banners raised but one thing was still missing, the rings. That has been taken care of.

The Mustangs received their national championship rings after Wednesday’s spring practice. Morningside won the 2018 NAIA title, by beating Benedictine of Kansas in the championship game to finish 15-0.

It’s their first national title in football. Head coach Steve Ryan says it was still nice to look back again on a special season.

“We’ve tried to do a lot to get our guys to turn the page and focus on next year,” said Ryan. “The rings did come in today so we thought we’d take a brief, 15-20 minutes and just celebrate last season one last time. It was fun to put it on. It was fun to watch some highlights of those guys from last year, just seeing the seniors walk back out here again together.”

Morningside will hold their spring game Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Olsen Stadium.
