SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Some high school students got a lesson in government from the former governor of the Rushmore state on Thursday.
Former South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard spoke to students at Bishop Heelan High School.
Juniors and seniors at the school learned about future careers in government.
Daugaard talked about his startup in politics, giving career tips for graduating students.
Daugaard served as governor from 2011 through 2019.
During his lecture, he told students that career opportunities in politics are available now.
“If a young person is interested in getting involved, I would say one of the things they should consider doing is volunteering for a candidate,” said Daugaard. “Learn a little bit about the candidates that are running for office and find one they like and say hey can help you in parades or in door-to-door, brochures or in mailings.”
With the 2020 elections coming up next year, Daugaard says this is a perfect time to get involved in politics.
