OKLAHOMA CITY (KTIV) — Morningside lost their opening game at the NAIA Softball Opening Round, 4-2, to Olivet Nazarene of Illinois on Monday.
Each team scored a run in the first inning. Third-seeded Morningside got the lead back with a run in the third. Both runs came on RBI singles from Rebecca Riley.
The second-seeded Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the third. The big hit was a two-run home run from pitcher Emily Carstens, who also struck out five Morningside hitters.
Morningside (30-10) will play Friends of Kansas (28-18) on Tuesday at 1:00 pm in an elimination game. The fourth-seeded Falcons lost to top-seeded Oklahoma City 9-0. The winner of the four-team opening round will advance to the NAIA Softball World Series on May 23.
