SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Nebraska (KTIV) — South Sioux City High School has hired a new head boys basketball coach. Jared Langel will now lead the Cardinals program.

Langel is a 2005 graduate of South Sioux. He has been a girls assistant coach at Sioux City West and has been coaching for the last seven years.

He replaces Terry Comstock, who won three state titles in his 14 years. South Sioux was 8-14 last season and Langel thinks the key to a turnaround is in the youth program.

“The foundation is there. I think we’re going to get it re-energized,” said Langel. “I’m going to put some main focus into it. While we’re developing our high school kids we’re going to be developing our youth too. We’re going to make sure we’re doing the right things off the court, on the court. If the kids not doing the right things on the court, you can’t participate on the court.”

D.J. Smith was also named South Sioux’s new head boys golf coach on Tuesday.
