Man suspected of shooting South Sioux City officer on probation at time of incident

(KTIV) – Court records in Missouri show the man suspected of shooting South Sioux City Officer Van Berkum was on probation following his conviction in a 2016 drive-by shooting.

Missouri court records show Luis Quinones Rosa pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful use of a weapon in a drive-by shooting, in St, Joseph, Missouri, on July 18, 2016.

The St. Joseph News-Press newspaper reported Rosa was charged after multiple shots were fired at a St. Joseph home and SUV.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Court records show Rosa was given a suspended sentence and put on four-years probation.

In November of 2016, court records say Rosa violated the terms of his probation.

The, in December of 2017, Rosa was pulled over during a traffic stop, and charged with three traffic violations including: driving while revoked or suspended, speeding, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.

An arrest warrant was issued for Rosa in January of 2018.
