Morningside knocked out of NAIA softball tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY (KTIV) — Morningside’s softball season came to an end on Tuesday with a 5-0 loss to Olivet Nazarene (IL) at the NAIA Opening Round. The Mustangs beat Friends (KS) earlier in the day, 4-0, to advance to the loser’s bracket final.

Olivet Nazarene (35-9) scored four runs in the third inning, all with two outs. Three of the runs came on a pair of RBI triples. The Tigers added their final run on a wild pitch in the fifth inning.

The Mustangs (31-11) were held to three hits and left seven runners on base. Ellie Cropley, Lexie Stolen and Ashton Whited had the hits for Morningside. Olivet Nazarene will play top-seeded Oklahoma City on Wednesday, needing two wins to advance to the NAIA World Series.
