VERMILLION, South Dakota (KTIV) – A Wednesday morning accident at a worksite in Vermillion could have been much worse.

Shortly after 8 a.m. a trench collapsed, trapping a worker in the 300 block of Joplin Street in the new Bliss Pointe subdivision.

The worker was only buried up to his legs to about his mid-thighs, this according to the Vermillion Fire Chief.

Rescue crews rushed to the scene, but workers on site were able to free the trapped worker.

He was checked out by Vermillion Fire Rescue on site and was determined to be okay.
