SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — American Association baseball has returned. The Sioux City Explorers begin the 2019 season Thursday night against the Lincoln Saltdogs.

The Explorers wrapped up spring training on Tuesday. They went 4-2 in their six exhibition games. Pitching was a huge part of the X’s success a year ago that resulted in finishing with the leagues best record. Sioux City returns a lot from that pitching staff including Jason Garcia who will get the ball on opening day against Lincoln. Even with all of the returning talent, the Explorers know they need to continue to get better.

“Anytime it’s a new season, there’s motivation,” said manager Steve Montgomery. “We have to put things that happened behind you in the past because we’re not a 71-29 team right now. We’re a 0-0 team so we gotta strive to build and keep getting better. Not so much build off last year but just to continue to do what we did last year.”

First pitch between the Explorers and Saltdogs is scheduled for 7:12 P-M at Lewis and Clark Park.
