Storm Lake, IA man charged after assaulting woman, threatening to kill newborn

STORM LAKE, Iowa (KTIV) – A Storm Lake, Iowa, man has been arrested after police say he assaulted a woman while she was holding their one-month-old child, and threatened to kill the child.

Forty-year-old Miguel Martinez Chavez is charged with two counts of Child Endangerment, two counts of First Degree Harassment, Domestic Assault and Public Intoxication.

He is being held without bond in the Buena Vista County Jail.

Storm Lake Police was called to a home on Terrance Street at 9 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a domestic assault in progress and a person threatening to kill a small child.

Police say an adult woman alleged during an argument with Chavez he assaulted her while she was holding their one-month-old child. He then threatened to kill their child if the police were called.

Police also learned three weeks earlier Chavez and the woman were in a verbal argument when Chavez threatened to their newborn out of a second-story window.
