Explorers offense quiet in loss to Lincoln

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — The Sioux City Explorers saw their early season record fall to 1-1 with a 4-1 loss to Lincoln on Friday night at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

The Saltdogs broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Sioux City’s lone run came in the seventh innings when rookie Daytona Bryden drew a bases loaded walk that allowed Dean Green to score. The X’s were held to just four hits.

X’s starting pitcher Max Duval suffered the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits over six innings. The right-hander from California struck out five batters. Former major leaguer Nick Tepesch was the winner after throwing six scoreless innings.

Game three of the series is Saturday night at 6:05.
