(NBC News) – The Food and Drug Administration is recalling six different types of tattoo ink.

The FDA says the ink is contaminated with bacteria.

They say tattoo shops should stop using ‘Scalpa-Ink’, ‘Dynamic Color’ and ‘Solid Ink Diablo’.

The signs of an infection include rashes and sores – and could even lead to scarring.

Some states don’t require that tattoo artists be licensed and there are reduced safety standards.

The FDA recommends that you ask your tattoo artist what kind of ink they’re using.
