NEAR PILGER, Nebraska (KTIV) – Two men have been arrested following a chase with authorities that ended in a crash on Highway 15 near Pilger.
Twenty-five-year-old Charles Loughman, of Norfolk, is charged with theft of receiving, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest (3rd offense), willful reckless driving, driving under suspension, and speeding.
Twenty-five-year-old Nathaniel Herbel, Homeless, was arrested on theft of receiving. Drug violations are also expected.
Shortly after 2 a.m. Tuesday the Staton County Sheriff’s Office began pursuing the men on Highway 15 after their speeding vehicle refused to stop before going west onto county roads. The men traveled west toward Stanton before going back east towards Highway 15.
The vehicle finally lost control onto 570th Avenue, rolling and coming to a rest by a tree.
Loughlin declined medical attention while Herbel was taken to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk for treatment.
The men’s vehicle had fake plates and is believed to have been stolen from a Norfolk residence earlier on Monday.
Emergency response to the pursuit and accident was hampered due to Highway 57 Bridge south of Stanton being closed due to flooding.
