Graduation gift spending expected to exceed $5 billion this year

(NBC News) – Americans are expected to spend more than $5 billion overall in gifts for this year’s graduation season, this according to the National Retail Federation.

An estimated 34 percent of Americans will spend about $107.48 on gifts for high school and college graduates. This is about $5 more on average than in 2018.

The most popular gift for new grads is cash, with about 53 percent of gift givers planning to give cash to their graduates.

Other popular graduation gifts include gift certificates, apparel, and electronics.
