Bishop Heelan juniors celebrate their start of summer early

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – School’s out for Bishop Heelan High School, and juniors are celebrating the start of their summer.

Some students have a busy time ahead of them, while others plan on just relaxing.

Since college is right around the corner, college visits are on some student’s agendas.

“I am going to be playing for the varsity softball team here at Heelan so that’s really exciting,” said Elizabeth Meyer,  a junior at the school. “I am going to be going to Okoboji, we have a lake house their spending some time and also a lot of college visits as I’m coming on to my senior year just kinda starting that decision where I’m going to be going.”

“In Mexico, I’m going to go to Cancun, which is a really pretty beach and we are going to go visit there with my whole family,” said Ximena Garcia, a junior.

Volunteering and Internships are also some of the things the students mentioned are in their plans.

“I volunteer at Blessed Sacrament. I sing at 8 am mass a lot,” said junior Eric Lohr.

“I actually have an internship at the Tyson Events Center that I’ll be working at full time in the Information Systems Department. So I’m looking forward to that,” said junior Patrick Demers.

Students brought games, food, music and a lot of excitement for the start of summer, this morning.

The grill out is a tradition that started several years ago and is student driven.

Students say it’s a great way to kick off summer in a fun and safe environment.
