(KTIV) – A Siouxland student is taking a final look through his dictionary and thesaurus before Saturday.
Brendan Lindsey, a student at Dakota Valley Middle School, will be competing amongst some of the best and brightest students in the country as part of the National Spelling Bee.
In March, Brendan beat out 13 other students from South Dakota in 33 rounds of competition at the state spelling bee at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
He said the upcoming competition will be very different.
“Each spelling bee heading up to (the National Spelling Bee) has had a written word list, so I have always studied that,” he said. “This spelling bee has a 600-word list for just two rounds.”
Brendan will be one of 565 students competing for the national title.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee begins with preliminary rounds May 28 and 29, with the Finals on May 30.
