LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) — The newly renovated Wells Visitor Center and Ice Cream Parlor in Le Mars, Iowa is just about ready for its public debut.
Renovations on the now 19,000 square foot facility began in October of last year.
On the bottom floor there’s a new dining area with an interactive hologram sundae making station, gift shop, event center and ice cream parlor.
Upstairs is where the Wells’ story comes to life.
“The Wells Theater,” said Adam Baumgartner, Wells Vice President of Retail Sales, “A really exciting and brand new exhibit. It’s something we’ve never had or never done that will highlight the genesis of Wells, the connection to Le Mars, how the family established themselves here and what this city meant to it. Everything we’re doing as well too to really bring fun and ice cream to life for our guests.”
There’s also more interactive tools, more seating and outdoor space.
For employees of Wells, it’s fun to get to showcase what Le Mars has to offer.
“This is the Ice Cream Capital of the World,” said Shannon Rodenburg, Wells Visitor Center & Ice Cream Parlor Marketing & Tourism Manager, “There is only one of those and so to get to come to work every day and celebrate that and really bring that to life through the visitor’s center here is in a few words my dream job.”
And this is just the beginning for bringing visitors to the Ice Cream Capital of the World.
“We think beyond the Iowa State Fair this will be the single biggest tourist destination in the state of Iowa and we expect to be able to continue to invest in doing that and really can’t wait for all of our guests to come, both locally and far away, to really see, experience it, share with their friends and bring more people back.”
There are now nearly 40 employees just at the parlor, which is about double from the previous staff.
There will be a soft opening on Saturday with the grand opening on June 12th.
