LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) – This year there double the amount of fun for Ice Cream Days, as Le Mars celebrates their Sesquicentennial or 150th Birthday.
The town was founded in 1869, and the celebration will feature activities to remind people of the town’s history.
Some of the activities include children’s games, a picnic with a birthday cake, and even a Polo Match as Le Mars had the first Polo Club West of the Mississippi.
An event organizer says this is a good opportunity to compare life from the past to the present.
“A great opportunity to remember our history, where we came from, and the things our founders did and to see what they did to build this community and where we are today,” said Richard Zietlow, Co-Chairman. “See some of the comparisons of the technology and tools they had back then and what we have now, and the different activities that they did and all they did to build this community.”
Thursday night, a new mural will be commissioned that was painted in honor of the Sesquicentennial showing the History of Le Mars.
The celebration runs through Sunday.
