SIOUX CITY (KTIV) –  Sculpt Siouxland partnered up with the Sioux City Farmer’s Market to host “Chalk the Block” on Saturday.

The event was featured on the far end of the weekly farmer’s market in the parking lot of the Tyson Events Center.

Artists of all ages were welcome to make chalk art for everyone to see.

One artist got to put her own spin on a famous piece of art.

“It took me a while to decide what I wanted to do. It’s sort of a play on Vermeer’s “Girl With a Pearl Earring,” except I changed it to a hoop earring to try to give it a more ethnic feel to it because I feel like diversity is really important and that’s what I like to portray in my art,” said local artist, Sonia Perea-Morales.

The event provided free chalk to anyone wanting to participate.
