SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – Briar Cliff University is adding a new Masters program.

Known for its nursing programs, Briar Cliff now offers a Masters of Science in Nursing for Psychiatric Mental Health.

The focus of the new program will be the care of individuals with mental health conditions.

Briar Cliff University President Rachelle Karstens says the new program provides students with an opportunity to learn something new

“Just like our other programs that we already offer it gives them another avenue to find and fulfill their purpose and passion,” said  Karstens.

Karstens says there is a need for these practitioners, and the program will help patients get the care they need.

The chair of Briar Cliff’s nursing department says the new program will help change the mindset of mental health conditions.

“This program will help break the stigma. The more people that we have who are prepared, knowledgeable, have the skills, know how to approach individuals. How to de-stigmatize mental illness will definitely improve the quality of care and health of our local population,” said Susan Beidler, BCU Nursing Department Chair.

Beidler adds that Briar Cliff’s goal is to provide the highest quality education for its students.
