Remsen, IA (KTIV) — Remsen St. Mary’s moved into 10th in this weeks Class 1A rankings. The Hawks won the War Eagle Conference with a win over Hinton Monday night. A big reason for their success has been sophomore pitcher Blaine Harpenau.
So far this season Harpenau has a perfect 9-0 record when he takes the mound. He leads all classes with 110 strikeouts and has only given up three earned runs in 53 innings pitched. Even though he’s only a sophomore, Harpenau already pitched in two state tournaments. Once as an 8th grader and again as a freshman. So he’s used to pitching on the big stage.
“I think all guys working together rallying around me, they just make plays in the field when we need them,” said Harpenau. “Skyler does a great job behind the plate and Brady does a great job calling pitches.”
“He’s pitched in the state tournament as an 8th grader and Freshman,” said Head Coach Dean Harpenau. “So the stage is normal for him as far as he’s pitched all of our big games and he’s not afraid of that stage. So we have a lot of confidence in him and Blaine’s just calm and he’s not a guy that gets highly emotional and that’s a great asset in a pitcher.”
