SIOUX CITY (KTIV) — The Milwaukee Milkmen defeated the Sioux City Explorers 6-1 in the series opener Tuesday night. It was the first ever meeting between the Explorers and expansion Milwaukee.
Milwaukee grabbed the lead in the top of the first inning. Jose Rosario doubled to left field. Cesar Valera scored. Later in the first, Nolan Early singled to left field. Two runs scored giving the Milkmen as 3-0 lead.
Milwaukee pitcher Angel Ventura shut down the Explorers offense. He hurled 7 and 2/3 innings, giving up no earned runs and tallying eight strikeouts.
The Milkmen added two more runs in the fifth inning. Garret Copeland singled to right field scoring Jeff Chandler. Then Manuel Boscan added an RBI single of his own increasing the lead to 5-0. Milwaukee adds another run in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Sam Dexter.
Sioux City finally cracks the scoreboard in the bottom half of the sixth inning. Michael Lang scored from third on a pass ball by the catcher. That would be all the offense Sioux City could find in this game.
The series continues Tuesday night at Lewis and Clark park. First pitch is at 7:12 P.M.
