VERMILLION, South Dakota (KTIV) — College athletic departments usually get some much deserved time off during the summers. But the University of South Dakota was busy Wednesday. Three of their head coaches have signed contract extensions according to the Sioux Falls Argus Leader.
Head football coach Bob Nielson gets a five-year extension. Nielson is entering his fourth season with a 16-19 record. He took the Coyotes to the playoffs in 2017 and gets a $15,000 dollar raise to $295,000 a season.
Head women’s basketball coach Dawn Plitzuweit also gets five more years and a raise to $250,000 per season. She led USD to a program-record 26 wins last season, while becoming the first Summit League team to get an at-large bid to the NCAA tourney.
Volleyball coach Leanne Williamson also gets a five-year extension. She guided the Coyotes to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance last season, going 21-10.
